Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum

Railroad Memorabilia, Dioramas, Historical Video Presentation, Crystal Exhibits, Rail Line China Exhibit, Czech Heritage Exhibit, Gift Shop and so much more! 

The City of Ennis was established as a town in 1872 and was named after Cornelius Ennis, Director of the Houston & Texas Central (H&TC) Railroad.

The museum is located inside the restored Van Noy Restaurant (circa 1915) and is located just off Ennis Avenue at NE Main Street, behind the Ennis Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Czech Museum

See a "little bit of Czechoslovakia" at North Texas only Czech Museum, a memorial to the local Czech Heritage, and those Czech individuals who helped develop the Ennis community. Exhibits include authentic Czech costumes, memorabilia, dolls, photographs, crystal, books and much more. Reservations are required prior to visiting museum located on Texas Highway 34-East. The museum is located in the Sokol Hall Activity Center.

Minnie McDowell Park

The Tara, which was the very first Cinemark theater, once reigned supreme at the site where this park now stands. The family of Lee Roy Mitchell, Cinemark's "corporate leader" donated the land to the City of Ennis after a bad storm left the cinema severely damaged in the early 1990's. The park, named for long time employee, Minnie McDowell, is located in downtown Ennis - one block off U.S. Highway 287-Business on the corners of Dallas Street and Knox Street.

Pierce Park

Stop by to pay tribute to Ennis' first casualty of World War II. The park, located downtown on NW Main Street is just off U.S. Highway 287 -Business: across the railroad tracks from the Railroad Museum. Pierce Park is home to many festival events throughout the year.


Jack Lummus Memorial Park

Jack Lummus was an Ennis native who won the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery in World War II.  As a tribute to Mr. Lummus this circular memorial is named after him. The park is dedicated to all those who lost their lives in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It is located only a stone's throw from Interstate 45, off the west service road on Chamber of Commerce Drive in front of the Chamber.


Kachina Prairie

To witness a vanishing opportunity, stop by this site found on the west end of Baldridge Street in the City of Ennis. Over 30 acres of rare, natural blackland prairie can be viewed from a beautiful vantage point. Only 1,000 acres of this prairie land is believed to exist in the United States. 


Ennis Public Library

Whether you are conducting genealogy research, just reading for pleasure, or you wish to see the ever changing special exhibits, we invite you to pay a visit to the Ennis Public Library. Explore the extensive collection of genealogy information and historical records on the Czech heritage and other immigrants who arrived via Galveston and later settled in Ennis. The Czech Heritage collection includes old ship and wedding logs.
